Paul and I went to a local outdoor shopping mall called the promenade shops. While in Old Navy, he pointed out a girl wearing these boots and said "Those are so ugly, why do girls wear them?"
I had to laugh. Uggs have been a pervasive, infectious disease on the North East coast for at least 2 years now.
It ended up that we counted them, in the time we spent at this outdoor mall, 1 hour and 45 minutes, we counted a grand total of 101 pair of Ugg or Ugg-Like boots.
Most of the wearers were between the ages of 9 and 17, female (obviously) and white. when we spotted the last pair I considered shaking the hand of the girl wearing them, but she was talking to her boyfriend and god forbid we interupt that! (remember my hormonal teenage friends that babies cry!).
It was kind of amazing at the sheer number of Uggs. There were 4 or 5 women wearing them (between 20-40) but for the most part it was teenagers.
By the way, we didn't count little girls who had no choice in their wardrobes.
Regardless, I have no real opinion of them. I think that it is amazing how many girls wear them, in my teenage years you weren't caught dead wearing something that everyone else was wearing. We had this crazy idea of "originality" and "uniqueness" that was, of course, a delusion.
Regardless, If you love them or hate them...you have to admit they are pretty damn pervasive! There are thousands of beautiful boots out there, choose something other than uggs!
